Ashman.

Bedford isn't a big place, but it's surprising how much music comes out of it from all sorts of different genres. One person who you should be hearing from this year is 19 year old Drum & Bass producer, Ashley. Nope he has no alias, but when he does finally name himself, I'm sure this will be the first place to broadcast it!

Ashley has kindly given me a five track E.P. to give to you lovely people to download, exclusively, from this here blog. Feedback is always appreciated and we'd both like to know what you lot think of his music. A lot of people have complained about not knowing how to leave comments. So, to leave a comment, click on "Comments" underneath this post, either enter your own name or select Anonymous from the drop down menu and type away.

For the first time, I actually interviewed the artist! This is how it went.

Ashley, you're nameless
Yeah never had a name to be honest

You'll need to one day
(Laughs)  yeah. It's never really bothered me to be honest. My mates call me Ashman

How long have you been producing for?
Two years maybe?

Has it only ever been drum & bass?
Nah, well I started off with grime for like a year. Then slowly began making DNB "full time"... experimented with a few Dubstep tracks / Hip Hop but its never stuck really

Okay, DNB is first love then, when it comes to music?
Now it is. I started off listening to UKG way back in the day, then as soon as the grime culture grew, I began following it really deeply. Since about 2005 slowly been moving over to DNB and now its 90% of what I listen to, with a bit of old skool Hip Hop, Dubstep & House / Trance occasionally

Which producers do you think are making the biggest tracks at the moment?
Hmmm... tough one. depends on what sub-genre you look at. Dom & Roland have made some bad darker tracks in recent times. Calibre always brings the soulful flavours. Zero Tolerance is one of my faves, Subwave. The list could go on for days! Obviously gotta shout out to K-Dan from Bedford, been killing it lately and has blown up in the past 2 or 3 months!

Nice to see the local producers making a name for themselves.
Last question: If you're not making music, what are you doing?
Sleep, work, basketball, wishing I had more money and Renegade Hardware events (Laughs)

You can find Ashman at www.myspace.com/ashmandnb and can download his E.P. below. Enjoy!

What comes around goes around.

Right, I've taken a lot of stick recently, being a McLaren supporter in the Formula 1 but I've just read something very interesting.

Since Michael Schumacher left the team in red, Ferrari haven't returned to their former glory. Slowly but surely, the team's prominence in the sport has slowly dwindled. Last year Lewis Hamilton famously won the driver's championship, beating both of the 'mighty' Ferraris and put McLaren on the top of the respected list.

Now I know this season is all about Brawn GP and Jenson Button, but the fact that McLaren haven't been coping very well with their car, the Ferrari fans have started to laugh in our faces as their team is making progress with their car.

BUT WHO ARE YOU GOING TO SUPPORT NEXT YEAR?!

"The rules of governance that have contributed to the development of Formula One over the last 25 years have been disregarded, as have the binding contractual obligations between Ferrari and the FIA itself regarding the stability of the regulations. The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA’s endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula One are the priorities for the future. If these indispensable principles are not respected and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula One World Championship."

Skate park business

I hadn't been to the skate park in almost a year. So many memories in that place which make me want to visit more often. This one got caught on camera. Good times!
