Bedford isn't a big place, but it's surprising how much music comes out of it from all sorts of different genres. One person who you should be hearing from this year is 19 year old Drum & Bass producer, Ashley. Nope he has no alias, but when he does finally name himself, I'm sure this will be the first place to broadcast it!
Ashley has kindly given me a five track E.P. to give to you lovely people to download, exclusively, from this here blog. Feedback is always appreciated and we'd both like to know what you lot think of his music. A lot of people have complained about not knowing how to leave comments. So, to leave a comment, click on "Comments" underneath this post, either enter your own name or select Anonymous from the drop down menu and type away.
For the first time, I actually interviewed the artist! This is how it went.
Ashley, you're nameless
Yeah never had a name to be honest
You'll need to one day
(Laughs) yeah. It's never really bothered me to be honest. My mates call me Ashman
How long have you been producing for?
Two years maybe?
Has it only ever been drum & bass?
Nah, well I started off with grime for like a year. Then slowly began making DNB "full time"... experimented with a few Dubstep tracks / Hip Hop but its never stuck really
Okay, DNB is first love then, when it comes to music?
Now it is. I started off listening to UKG way back in the day, then as soon as the grime culture grew, I began following it really deeply. Since about 2005 slowly been moving over to DNB and now its 90% of what I listen to, with a bit of old skool Hip Hop, Dubstep & House / Trance occasionally
Which producers do you think are making the biggest tracks at the moment?
Hmmm... tough one. depends on what sub-genre you look at. Dom & Roland have made some bad darker tracks in recent times. Calibre always brings the soulful flavours. Zero Tolerance is one of my faves, Subwave. The list could go on for days! Obviously gotta shout out to K-Dan from Bedford, been killing it lately and has blown up in the past 2 or 3 months!
Nice to see the local producers making a name for themselves.
Last question: If you're not making music, what are you doing?
Sleep, work, basketball, wishing I had more money and Renegade Hardware events (Laughs)
You can find Ashman at www.myspace.com/ashmandnb and can download his E.P. below. Enjoy!
